Wonders never cease. The week Taylor Hicks was crowned American Idol #5, more people tuned in to see what weird mind games were going on with House when the doctor (Hugh Laurie) got shot. Okay, only 1,000 more viewers watched House, but that's just enough to catapult the frequently No. 2 show to the top spot for the first time this season. CSI: Miami's finale, which concluded with Horatio (David Caruso) on a plane to Brazil to avenge his wife's death, also fared well, pulling in 100,000 more eyes than Idol's final performance show. With heavy hitters like CSI done for the season, Medium and The Apprentice returned to the countdown. Ditto 24 — but only the first hour of the season finale. In its wisdom, Global aired The Apprentice smack dab in the middle of the last two hours of Jack Bauer's day. Most fans watched Hour 2 on Fox.
